Recent incidents such as numerous oil and gas industry helicopter ditching events along with the high-profile US Airways Flight 1549 ditching in the Hudson River in New York highlight that this type of event can happen at any time to anyone.
Embry-Riddle Worldwide has now teamed with Antipodean Aviation of Australia to provide industry-leading emergency water landing (aircraft ditching) awareness and survival training specific to both fixed wing and rotary wing flying.
Beyond extended over-water flights, this training can be useful for an emergency water landing into a lake, river or bay since that may be better than trying to land in a residential area over a city or in rough timbered terrain.
This program includes information on pre-flight planning and emergency water landing techniques for airplanes and helicopters, as well as egress from a submerged aircraft cabin and sea survival techniques, including life preserver and life raft familiarization, and search and rescue operations.
