Dr. Scott Burgess
Embry-Riddle - Worldwide
College of Aeronautics
Dr. Scott Burgess' 32 years of aviation experience includes both military and civil aviation organizations. Associate Professor Burgess operates a dozen sUAS from Parrot, DJI, 3DR, Hubsan, Yuneec and more, and in both multi-copters and fixed wing platforms with RGB, FLIR and multi-spectral payloads. Scott conducts flight operations and testing on and near his ranch in remote areas of Texas. In May of 2017, he joined with other faculty and students and fell in on post-tornado damage in Oklahoma to capture and broadcast live imagery to the state capitol and yield this imagery and real time information to first responders and residents receiving the tragic damage. Burgess develops UAS academics and consults on sUAS operations and integration for missions such as agriculture, construction, ISR, Law Enforcement, SAR and more.
In manned aircraft he is qualified on seven military and civilian helicopters (among them, the AH-1 Cobra, UH-1 Huey, OH-58 Kiowa, with several hundred hours in an F-15E Strike Eagle as a functioning Weapons Systems Officer). Additionally, experiences include loading strategic airlift aircraft, and even exiting them in flight. Scott holds the Remote Pilot in Command Certification.
