Overview

With the enormous growth of Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) use throughout the United States, many law enforcement agencies may find themselves responding to unauthorized, reckless, or illegal operations related to these systems. This online course provides information to assist law enforcement agencies in understanding how to respond to unauthorized use of sUAS or model aircraft and how to apply appropriate federal, state, and local regulations. This course provides an overview of UAS equipment and components, legal/regulatory issues, federal case law, law enforcement liability, current and proposed federal regulations, local law enforcement responsibilities, sUAS incidents, and how to respond to active operation. Upon completion, the student will acquire the ability to create a response policy that can be implemented regarding response to sUAS incidents.
