The Helicopter Aircrew Officer Course is designed for personnel looking for a career in aviation in the role of a Helicopter Aircrew Officer (also referred to as Helicopter Aircrewman or Hoist Operator). This course is the only course of its type in the world offering university CEUs to successful participants through Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University – Worldwide’s Office of Professional Education. This course can also be taken by personnel already working in the role who would like recognition of their current skills and qualifications.

The syllabus of this course is one of the most comprehensive available on the market, exceeding the requirements of FAA, CASA and EASA regulations, and includes all approvals under each regulatory body to ensure graduates are fully qualified, including CAO 29.11 Appendix III approval (CASA) for both Winching/Hoisting and Rappelling operations. The syllabus offers a variety of specialized study streams for crew wishing to be involved in SAR/EMS operations, Aerial Fire Fighting operations or Airborne Policing or a full combined program encompassing all specialties. Combined with a university certificate, this course provides graduates with the knowledge, skills and qualifications no other course of its type provides, making graduates "job ready" with skills that far exceed any other.

The course itself is divided into 2 components, with Phase 1 providing theory training via online self-directed study (with instructor support) and Phase 2 comprising the practical skills training and assessment. Phase 1 involves 30 modules of study which can be expected to take 16 weeks to complete. The Phase 2 practical training runs over 4 weeks with options to participate full-time over consecutive weeks or via a part-time schedule over an extended period.

Course Availability and Schedule

Participants must start with the theory component, which is delivered 100% online. Participants may register for the course at their convenience and complete Phase 1 at their own pace. Once Phase 1 is completed, students can then be scheduled for the next available practical training program convenient to their availability. The 4-week practical program is scheduled a minimum of 4 times per year for general entry students, one block period in each calendar quarter. Organizational or group training can be scheduled outside these times as required to suit customer needs.

Course Cost

Full-Time Course - $11,800 (Note: only the deposit is required to commence Phase 1). Students wishing to undertake the part-time program can make part payments as they undertake each practical week. It should be noted however that the part-time course will require a refresher day prior to each consecutive week (additional 3 days in all over the program) with a total course cost of $12,460.
